AI-assisted Mount Shasta climb ends in rescue for three hikers

Three amateur hikers from Roseville used Google Gemini and other AI tools to plan a Mount Shasta ascent, including food and water needs, but the AI underestimated what was needed. After descending in the dark, they became lost at high elevation and spent a night in Mud Creek Canyon before forest service rangers and Siskiyou Search and Rescue recovered them. Authorities warned climbers not to rely on AI alone and to consult the local Mount Shasta Ranger Station before attempting a climb.
