Kentucky teacher and new mom is first to be charged under grooming law

A Graves County Middle School teacher, Sadie Flores, 25, who recently married and welcomed a daughter, has become Kentucky’s first person charged under a new grooming law that allows preemptive charges before a sexual assault. Police say she allegedly groomed a minor outside the student–teacher relationship, including late-night FaceTime chats and secret meetings; investigators noted the messages were not school-related and involved a parent-initiated complaint. It’s unclear when she will appear in court or if she has entered a plea. The law took effect July 15.
