Toledo ex-lawyer convicted of attempted murder after gun threat at restaurant

A former attorney, Matthew Exton, 43, was convicted in Lucas County on charges of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault for pulling a Colt Defender on his ex-wife at Sabira restaurant in downtown Toledo on April 11, 2025. Prosecutors said Exton intended a public execution; the weapon misfired when its safety was on and a waiter tackled him. Exton testified about his divorce and past as a lawyer, but he was acquitted on one assault count; sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
