The US and other nations are shifting towards helping Ukraine sustain its counteroffensive against Russia, which is expected to be long and come at a high cost. The international coalition is focusing on providing support for the weapons systems that have made the biggest difference in the fight and are manageable for Ukrainians to maintain. The US has trained 11,400 Ukrainians since February 2022 and is currently training about three battalions of Ukrainians, including a tank battalion training on the M1A1 Abrams. The US and its allies are still working on the plan to train Ukraine's fighter pilots on fourth-generation aircraft, including US F-16s.
