Northeast Braces for Severe Storms and Flood Risk

More than 38 million people from New York City to Washington, D.C. are bracing for a Thursday outbreak of severe weather, including flash floods, damaging winds, large hail and possible tornadoes. The I-95 corridor could see rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour with some areas totaling around 5 inches. The worst storms are expected in New York City from about 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in Philadelphia and D.C. from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; flood watches are in effect for NYC, the Hudson Valley, much of New Jersey and Philadelphia, with showers and storms forecast to develop around 1 p.m. and continue through the afternoon and evening.
