Heavy rain is expected to continue drenching the South from Texas to Georgia, providing much-needed moisture for the drought-stricken region. A dip in the jet stream over the Southern Plains, combined with a strong subtropical jet over Mexico, has formed an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico, tapping into tropical moisture and producing heavy rainfall. While the rain is beneficial, it also brings the threat of flash flooding. The rainfall won't end the drought conditions, but it will help alleviate the ongoing wildfires in the South and Southeast.
