"New Year's Weather Outlook: Showers Likely as Temperatures Trend Cooler"

The Washington, D.C. area is expected to have a cloudy New Year's Eve with possible brief showers before midnight and additional showers into New Year's Day. Temperatures will hover around 40 degrees at midnight, dropping to the 30s by dawn. New Year's Day may see some sunshine in the morning, but it will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, especially in the late afternoon, and breezy conditions. Despite a wet December, the year ended with a rainfall deficit at Reagan National Airport, and drought conditions have improved but still persist in some areas.
