Settler indicted in West Bank shooting of Palestinian who starred in Oscar-winning film

Israeli prosecutors charged Yinon Levy, a settler, with reckless manslaughter for the July 2025 killing of Odeh Hathaleen in Umm al-Khair; the indictment also accuses him of armed trespassing and property damage after settlers used an excavator in a confrontation. Hathaleen, a teacher and activist who appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, was a prominent voice against settler violence. If convicted, it would be the first Israeli indictment for killing a Palestinian in the West Bank in almost three years. Levy denies firing the fatal shot; prosecutors say he fired at residents and then into the air as footage circulated widely.
