WSJ reporter detained in Russia receives support from media and athletes.

Jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who is accused of espionage in Russia, is "cheerful" and doing well in pre-trial detention, according to a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission. Gershkovich is being held alone in a two-person cell and is undergoing a period of quarantine. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of 20 years in a penal colony. The case is believed to be an attempt by Russia to boost its negotiating position in a possible future prisoner swap for Russian citizens jailed in the United States.
