All-optical photonic time crystal unlocks ultrafast light control

An international team built the first all-optical photonic time crystal, employing a plasmonic metamaterial excited by terahertz pulses to dynamically reshape light on picosecond timescales, a breakthrough that could enable ultrafast optical computers, smarter communications, and new tunable terahertz lasers.
