Former Cheerleader Slams Northwestern's Inadequate Response to Hazing

Hayden Richardson, a former Northwestern University cheerleader, has criticized the school's response to hazing allegations, calling it "a lot of empty platitudes." Richardson had previously filed a lawsuit in 2021, alleging sexual exploitation and a hostile environment within the cheerleading team. The lawsuit described instances of sexual assault and harassment, as well as the cheerleaders being used to encourage donations to the university. Northwestern University has faced mounting lawsuits and leadership shake-ups due to allegations of hazing, racism, and abuse in various sports. While the university has pledged reform and hired former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to conduct a review, Richardson believes that the university is not dedicated to true reform and accountability.
