"ChatGPT Outperforms Columnists in Providing Advice, Reveals Study"

A new study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology found that the latest version of ChatGPT, using GPT-4, provides better personal advice than professional columnists. The study compared responses to social dilemma questions from ChatGPT and advice columnists, and about three-quarters of the participants perceived ChatGPT's advice as more balanced, complete, empathetic, helpful, and better overall. While ChatGPT's responses were often longer, even when constrained to a similar length as the columnists' responses, participants still preferred ChatGPT's advice. However, participants still expressed a preference for human advice due to the belief that machines lack empathy. The study suggests that appropriately designed chatbots could potentially augment therapy in the future, but caution is needed to address potential issues.
