GM Prioritizes Safety Over Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

General Motors (GM) is dropping Android Auto and Apple CarPlay from its electric vehicles due to safety concerns regarding poor wireless connections, according to GM's product lead for infotainment, Tim Babbitt. Babbitt cited stability issues such as bad/dropped connections, slow responses, and poor rendering as reasons for the decision. GM is offering its Google-powered Ultifi infotainment suite as a replacement, which integrates directly into the car and includes Google apps and third-party options. However, there are still compatibility issues with various Android phone makers and some older iPhones. Critics speculate that GM's own solution may eventually put previously free features behind a paywall.
