Gigabyte Motherboards Sold with Firmware Backdoor Affecting Hundreds of Models

Eclypsium has discovered a firmware vulnerability in over 270 Gigabyte motherboards that could be exploited by hackers. The hidden feature, designed to keep the motherboard's firmware updated, was implemented insecurely and could be hijacked by attackers to install malware instead of Gigabyte's intended software. 271 Gigabyte motherboards are affected by this flaw, and a firmware update will be required to remove the vulnerability. Gigabyte has plans to address these security flaws, but it remains to be seen how quickly a fix will be rolled out to affected motherboards.
