Google Authenticator's Cloud Backup Raises Security Concerns

Google's update to its authenticator app that stores a "one-time code" in cloud storage to retain access to two-factor authentication (2FA) has raised concerns about increased vulnerability to hackers. By securing it in cloud storage associated with the user's Google account, anyone who gains access to the user's Google password would obtain full access to their authenticator-linked apps. Cybersecurity experts have warned of the dangers of using SMS 2FA, which is the most vulnerable form of 2FA currently in use.
