Balatro Dev Celebrates Game Awards Noms by Highlighting Other Indie Gems
TL;DR
Balatro, a poker roguelike developed by solo indie developer LocalThunk, has been nominated for five categories at the 2024 Game Awards, including Game of the Year. This marks a significant achievement as LocalThunk is the only indie developer in the Game of the Year and Best Game Direction categories. Balatro, which has seen remarkable success with over a million copies sold and significant mobile revenue, is also nominated for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Mobile Game. LocalThunk expressed feeling "completely surreal" about the nominations and plans to celebrate modestly.
