TL;DR

Reliable leaker Midori has revealed that the long-rumored Final Fantasy IX remake is "very far along" in development, with an expected release in 2025. Initially outsourced, Square Enix took over the project internally after being dissatisfied with the results. The remake is expected to stay true to the original's story and art style, with updated graphics. Official news might be announced soon, possibly during the upcoming Xbox Showcase.
