Nintendo Switch Sales Slow, No New Hardware Coming Soon

Nintendo reports a 22% decline in Switch hardware sales for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2023, and predicts an additional 16.5% decline for the next fiscal year. The global semiconductor shortage and a decrease in sales from last year's holiday season were partly attributed to the decline. Nintendo has sold 125.6 million Switch consoles since its launch in 2017. The company has confirmed that no new hardware will ship this fiscal year, and president Shuntaro Furukawa added that Nintendo's 15 million Switch sales goal for the next year will be challenging. On the software front, Nintendo has shipped 1.036 billion Switch games since 2017, beating the record of 948.7 million shipped games that was previously held by the Nintendo DS family of handheld consoles.
