Onimusha Reborn: Capcom Reimagines a 20-Year Silence with Way of the Sword

Capcom is reviving the long-dormant Onimusha series with Way of the Sword, a single-katana, RE Engine–powered action-adventure that modernizes the series’ swordplay and supernatural horror. The standalone 20-hour campaign follows Miyamoto Musashi in a dark-fantasy Edo-era Kyoto, emphasizing precise parries, deflects, and Issen counterattacks, with an expanded Oni Gauntlet that absorbs souls and reveals hidden foes; players won’t swap weapons, but will utilize elemental attacks and Break Issen variants. The game uses a wide-linear design, allows revisiting areas, and blends Genma lore with environmental puzzles, not a Soulslike or open world. It launches September 4, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam/Epic), and Switch 2 in Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Digital Premium Deluxe editions with pre-order bonuses, plus a free demo is available for download.
