Background
This event follows recent announcements regarding the PGA Tour's structural changes, including a new two-week match-play Tour Championship starting in 2028. While the real-world golf tour is undergoing significant format shifts, the video game PGA TOUR 2K25 remains available for free trial during this weekend's event.
How outlets are covering it
The primary source, Xbox Wire, focuses exclusively on the Free Play Days event, detailing the specific titles, eligibility requirements, and discount opportunities. The secondary source, Games Press, covers a different topic entirely, detailing Sea of Thieves Season 21 and its live events, including a separate free play weekend for that title from September 17 to 21. There is no overlap in the specific games or events covered by the two sources, as they address distinct gaming news items from the same week.
Why it matters
Free Play Days provide a low-risk opportunity for players to test new games, particularly those with complex mechanics like the prison escape in The Escapists 2 or the life simulation in Young Suns. For golf fans, it offers a chance to try PGA TOUR 2K25 without purchase, while The Division 2 provides a tactical shooter experience for all Xbox users.
What to watch
Players should check the Xbox Store for the Free Play Days collection between September 24 and 27. Those interested in Sea of Thieves can participate in its separate free play weekend from September 17 to 21. Future Free Play Days events will be announced via Xbox Wire.
