TL;DR

Google Maps is transitioning Location History storage from the cloud to users' devices, renaming it "Timeline." This change means the Your Timeline feature will no longer be available on the web, only on Android and iOS. Users must update their settings by a specified deadline to avoid losing data, and can back up their Timeline data with end-to-end encryption for device transfers.
