Xbox turns physical game discs into digital licenses with new disc-to-digital feature

Microsoft announced a new Xbox feature that lets most Xbox One and Series X disc-based games be redeemed for a digital entitlement on the console, with the entitlement tied to the disc and transferable between accounts. Testing will begin with Xbox Insider testers on August 31, followed by a broader rollout; digital copies can also be accessed on PC via Xbox Play Anywhere or streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Publishers will control initial support, with thousands of titles available at launch. Sony has moved to digital-only PS discs, while Microsoft also plans to bring Xbox/360 games to PC.
