Airline Industry Soars: American Airlines and United Airlines Report Record Earnings

American Airlines reported its second-quarter 2023 financial results, with record quarterly revenue of $14.1 billion, a 4.7% increase year over year. The company achieved its best-ever second-quarter completion factor and controllable completion factor, operating nearly 500,000 flights with an average load factor of approximately 86%. American also raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance and saw its credit rating upgraded by Fitch. The airline generated operating cash flow of $1.8 billion and ended the quarter with $14.9 billion of total available liquidity. Strengthening the balance sheet remains a top priority, with the company reducing total debt by $387 million in the quarter and aiming to reduce total debt by $15 billion by the end of 2025.
