UAW Strike: Negotiations, Risks, and Pay Increases

The United Auto Workers (UAW) are in negotiations with General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis over a new labor contract for around 146,000 workers. Talks have been tense, and a strike is likely if a deal is not reached by the contract expiration on September 14. The UAW is demanding a 40% wage hike over four years, improved benefits, and a shorter workweek. A strike could cost the automakers billions of dollars and lead to higher vehicle prices due to reduced production. Foreign automakers and electric vehicle companies are not affected as their workers are not unionized.
