Armenians Accept Russia's Ceasefire Plan, Ending Azerbaijan Offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh

Authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have accepted a ceasefire proposal made by Russian peacekeepers, following Azerbaijan's military operation in the disputed territory. Nagorno-Karabakh, internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but home to a majority ethnic Armenian population, has its own de-facto government backed by Armenia. The ceasefire is set to begin on Wednesday, with the withdrawal of Armenian forces and the dissolution of armed formations. The region has been the cause of two wars between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the most recent conflict in 2020 led to the deployment of Russian peacekeepers. However, Russia has been accused of failing to implement the ceasefire, and the region has been under a blockade since December 2022.
