Ceasefire Reached as Armenian Separatists Surrender in Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenian separatist forces in Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh have surrendered and agreed to a ceasefire, following an offensive by Baku to regain control of the territory. Under the agreement, separatist forces will disband and disarm, and talks on the future of the region and its ethnic Armenian population will begin. The outcome could lead to the integration of around 120,000 ethnic Armenians into Azerbaijani society. Armenia, which denies having military forces in Karabakh, did not intervene militarily. Azerbaijan's military operation faced criticism from the US and some European countries, who called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
