Ukraine disputes Russian control of Bakhmut.

Russian forces claim to have "legally" captured Bakhmut, a key city in eastern Ukraine, but Ukrainian officials say that fierce fighting is still ongoing. The head of the Wagner mercenary group leading Moscow's assault on the city said his forces had captured it after raising a flag above its administration building. However, Ukrainian officials rejected the claim, saying that clashes were still taking place around the city council building and elsewhere. Both sides have suffered heavy losses in the grueling battle, and the city has been heavily damaged by constant bombardments.
