Apalachee High shooter set to plead guilty at July court hearing

Court documents indicate Colt Gray, the teen who opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia in September 2024, will attend a status hearing and is expected to change his plea to guilty at a change-of-plea hearing on July 24, 2026. He faces 55 counts including felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault for the four victims. Gray previously pleaded not guilty as his trial had been tentatively set for October. The case also involves his father, Colin Gray, who was convicted on murder and manslaughter charges earlier this year and is to be sentenced later this month. Testimony previously described Colt’s troubled upbringing and mental health, and a mistaken identity by school officials involving another student during the incident.
