Taiwan's Defense Milestone: First Domestic Submarine Unveiled to Counter China Threat

Taiwan has unveiled its first domestically developed submarine, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities against the Chinese navy. The submarine, named the Narwhal, is part of Taiwan's ambitious project to modernize its armed forces and enhance its deterrence against China. President Tsai Ing-wen, who initiated the plan in 2016, emphasized the importance of self-reliance in national defense. The submarine, which will enter service in 2025, is the first of eight new submarines planned. The indigenous submarine program has drawn on expertise and technology from various countries, and the United States, Taiwan's largest arms supplier, has shown support by attending the unveiling ceremony.
