Writers Guild and Studios Seek Resolution as Strike Reaches Critical Milestone
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and studios/streamers have scheduled a meeting for August 4th to discuss negotiations, following the WGA's 14-week strike. The WGA has been pushing for issues such as viewership-based residuals, regulating artificial intelligence, and establishing minimum staffing numbers, while the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has expressed the need for further discussion on AI and called the minimum staffing proposal incompatible with the creative nature of the industry. The WGA's strike has been followed by a strike from performers' union SAG-AFTRA, while the Directors Guild of America has already ratified an agreement with employers.
