Ohio Train Derailment Disrupts Community and Raises Health Concerns

Residents of Tamaroa, Illinois, are drawing similarities between their 2003 train derailment and the recent derailment in East Palestine. The Tamaroa incident caused the evacuation of roughly 1,000 people after methanol, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, formaldehyde, and vinyl chloride leaked from the train. Canadian National spent over $1.9 million cleaning up the area and settled a class action suit for an undisclosed amount. Residents received a $12,000 settlement after six years of court battles. Mark Bryant is now calling for a long-term health study in the area due to the chemicals released in the spill.
