Dune 2 Score Faces Oscar Eligibility Hurdle, Villeneuve Remains Hopeful
TL;DR
Warner Bros. has submitted Hans Zimmer's score for "Dune: Part Two" for Oscar consideration, despite concerns it may not meet the Academy's eligibility requirements due to its use of themes from the 2021 film. The Academy's rules limit pre-existing music in sequels to 20%, and Zimmer's score may exceed this. Director Denis Villeneuve argues the film is a continuation, not a sequel, and hopes the score will be considered. The Academy's decision is pending, with shortlisted scores announced on December 17.
