FBI Director and Senators Clash Over Maryland's Selection for New Headquarters

FBI Director Christopher Wray has expressed concerns about the selection process for the bureau's new headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland. Wray questioned the fairness and transparency of the decision, as an unnamed senior executive at the General Services Administration (GSA) overrode the unanimous recommendation of a three-member panel that had chosen Springfield, Virginia. Wray raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest involving the GSA executive, who had previously worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, which owns the land in Maryland. The GSA defended its decision, stating that the Maryland site was the lowest cost, provided the best transportation access, and offered the most certainty on project delivery. Virginia officials also expressed concerns over the choice.
