"5-Minute Daily Activity: A Powerful Defense Against Cancer"

Just four to five minutes of vigorous physical activity per day, such as climbing stairs or carrying heavy grocery bags, could significantly reduce the risk of cancer among individuals who have been generally inactive, according to a study published in JAMA Oncology. The study analyzed data from 22,398 non-exercising adults and found that those who engaged in daily vigorous intermittent lifestyle physical activity (VILPA) for an average of 4.5 minutes per day had a 32% reduced risk of physical activity-related cancer incidence. Even participants who exercised for just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes per day saw a reduction in cancer risk by 17% to 18%. The study highlights the potential of short bursts of intense activity in lowering cancer risk for those who find structured exercise difficult or unappealing.
