The rise is more pronounced in women, who are being diagnosed at later stages when the disease is harder to treat. The cause of the increase is unclear, but factors such as modern diets, antibiotic use, and fungal infections have been suggested. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among young adults, followed by thyroid cancer, melanoma, testicular cancer, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The rise in colon cancer cases is particularly concerning, with a 30% increase in rates among adults in their 20s and 30s.
