Bay Area Dengue Cases Jump to 65 as Florida Intensifies Mosquito Control

Dengue locally acquired in Florida’s Tampa Bay area has risen to 65 cases across Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties (59 in Hillsborough, 5 Pinellas, 1 Pasco) through Aug. 29, up from 33 earlier this week, with 14 Hillsborough mosquito pools testing positive for DENV-2; statewide, 73 locally acquired cases have been reported, most of them DENV-2. Officials have intensified mosquito-control efforts—air and ground spraying and fogging—and urge residents to follow the 3 Ds: dress, defend with repellent, and dump standing water, as more cases are anticipated.
