COVID-19 Continues to Pose Health Threats for Older Adults in America

Older adults in the U.S. continue to face a higher risk of hospitalization due to COVID-19, with nearly 63% of all COVID-related hospitalizations between January and August 2023 being accounted for by adults aged 65 and older, according to a report from the CDC. The majority of these patients had multiple underlying conditions such as diabetes, kidney disorders, and obesity. The study also revealed that 76.5% of hospitalized patients in this age group were not up-to-date on COVID vaccinations. The CDC emphasized the importance of vaccination and early treatment for this vulnerable population, as COVID-19-associated hospitalizations remain a public health threat for older adults.
