COVID-19 Resurgence Sweeps Across Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, CDC Warns

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country, particularly in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. The Midwest, including states like Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, has seen steep increases in infections, including among nursing home residents. The CDC also noted a rise in respiratory illnesses such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza, with RSV reaching near-peak levels in southern states. However, COVID-19 remains the primary respiratory virus causing hospitalizations and deaths. Health officials are monitoring other causes of pneumonia-like illness in children, including mycoplasma bacteria.
