FDA escalates egg recall to top danger level over deadly salmonella risk

The FDA has upgraded a recall of 19 million eggs to the highest danger level (Class I) due to salmonella risk, warning that exposure can cause serious health consequences or death. Nearly 100 people have fallen ill and 26 have been hospitalized; the eggs, sold under Country Morning, Cal‑Ma ine Sunups, Brookshire’s, Simple Truth and Kroger brands, carry sell-by dates from July 20 to August 17, 2026 and were distributed to stores in several states. Consumers who purchased recalled eggs should discard them or return them for refunds, and vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals face higher risk.
