Steve Scalise, the second most powerful Republican in the US House of Representatives, has announced that he is being treated for multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. The 57-year-old lawmaker, who survived a mass shooting in 2017, expressed gratitude for the early detection and stated his intention to continue working through his treatment. Multiple myeloma is relatively uncommon in the US, but treatable if detected early. Three other members of Congress have also undergone cancer treatment since 2022.
