New research indicates that the HPV vaccine, initially developed to prevent cervical cancer in women, also significantly reduces the risk of HPV-related cancers in men, such as cancers of the mouth and throat. Despite this, fewer boys than girls are receiving the vaccine in the U.S. The study, which compared 3.4 million people, found that vaccinated men had fewer HPV-related cancers compared to unvaccinated men. The findings highlight the importance of increasing HPV vaccination rates among boys to maximize cancer prevention benefits.
