Louisiana Confirms First Human Bird Flu Case

The Louisiana Department of Health has reported the state's first presumptive positive human case of H5N1 avian influenza in a resident of southwestern Louisiana, who is currently hospitalized. The individual had exposure to sick and dead birds suspected of carrying the virus. While the risk to the general public remains low, those working with birds or poultry are at higher risk. Preventative measures include avoiding contact with sick animals and ensuring proper food handling. There have been no cases of human-to-human transmission in the U.S. so far.
