"Powassan Virus Detected in Four CT Residents"

Four Connecticut residents have tested positive for Powassan virus, a tick-borne illness. The patients, two men and two women, all reported having a tick bite and were hospitalized with central nervous system disease. They have since been discharged and are recovering. This marks the first cases of Powassan virus identified in Connecticut this year. The state Department of Public Health emphasizes the importance of taking precautions to prevent tick bites, such as using insect repellent and checking for ticks after being outdoors. As of August 15, there have been a total of 11 cases of Powassan virus in the United States.
