Two studies presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions have found that older adults who use marijuana are at a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. The studies focused solely on the cardiovascular effects of marijuana consumption and excluded tobacco users. Frequent marijuana use was found to have a negative effect on people with chronic conditions, increasing their risk of heart attack or stroke while hospitalized. Additionally, daily marijuana users were more likely to develop heart failure compared to non-smokers.
