California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that aimed to cap the cost of insulin at $35, stating that the state's own brand of insulin, CalRx, would address the underlying cost issue. The bill would have prohibited insurance companies from charging more than $35 for a 30-day supply of insulin. State senator Scott Wiener, who crafted the bill, criticized the veto, stating that it would leave many diabetic Californians struggling to afford insulin. In January, California's attorney general sued insulin manufacturers for colluding to increase prices, and in March, the largest insulin makers announced voluntary price reductions.
