Unearthed Remnants: Rediscovering Hitler's Destruction of Munich Synagogue

Pieces of Munich's main synagogue, which was demolished on Hitler's orders in 1938, have been found in a river during a construction project to refurbish an old underwater structure. The discovery, made 85 years after its destruction, has brought both shock and joy to Munich's Jewish community. The remnants, including columns and a large piece of the synagogue's Torah shrine, were used as landfill material after the synagogue was demolished and the river infrastructure was rebuilt in the 1950s. The finding highlights the horrifying actions of the Nazis and serves as a reminder of the flourishing Jewish life that was destroyed. The rubble will now be carefully examined for more remnants of the synagogue.
