"42-Year Separation Ends: Stolen at Birth, Man Reunites with Chilean Mother"

An American man who was stolen at birth by hospital workers in Chile has been reunited with his mother after 42 years. Jimmy Lippert Thyden, who was told by hospital workers that he had died, met his mother, Maria Angelica Gonzalez, in Valdivia, Chile. Thyden's journey to find his birth family began after reading news stories about Chilean-born adoptees being reunited with their relatives. Tens of thousands of babies were stolen from Chilean families during the rule of dictator Augusto Pinochet, and nonprofit organizations like Nos Buscamos have been working to reunite adoptees with their birth families. Thyden's DNA test confirmed his Chilean heritage, and he was able to connect with his birth family with the help of his first cousin.
