International Diplomatic Evacuations Amid Sudan Crisis

US military forces, including Navy's elite SEAL Team Six, evacuated the American embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, in a "fast and clean" operation amid fighting. President Joe Biden confirmed the evacuation was conducted under his orders and praised embassy staff. The mission got underway when two MH-47 Chinook helicopters took off from Djibouti, refueled in Ethiopia and flew into Khartoum to evacuate the embassy. Under 100 people, including Americans from the embassy and other personnel from unidentified embassies, were evacuated, including all US Marines who were providing security at the embassy. The Rapid Support Forces, the Sudanese paramilitary group battling Sudan's army, issued a statement claiming to have aided in the US evacuation, which was refuted by the State Department Under Secretary for Management John Bass.
