US criticized for leaving Americans behind during Sudan evacuation

The US has evacuated its diplomatic staff from Sudan due to worsening security conditions, but has left thousands of American citizens behind, citing the uncertain security situation and closure of the airport. Meanwhile, other countries including France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Holland, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Jordan, South Africa, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia have proceeded with evacuations of their nationals. The US has come under scrutiny for using elite SEAL commandos to evacuate embassy staff while telling private American citizens that no such operation would be carried out for them. At least two Americans have been killed in Sudan in recent weeks.
