VP Harris condemns violence in Gaza, calls for protection of innocent civilians

Vice President Kamala Harris expressed concern over the high number of innocent Palestinians killed in Gaza as Israeli airstrikes and artillery bombardments resumed following the collapse of a truce with Hamas militants. The Gaza health ministry reported at least 193 Palestinians killed and 650 wounded since the truce ended, adding to the more than 15,000 Palestinian deaths since the start of the war. Harris emphasized the need to respect international and humanitarian law, called for support in post-conflict Gaza recovery, and advocated for a unified Gaza and West Bank under the Palestinian Authority, with Hamas no longer in control. Israel aims to establish a "security envelope" to prevent Hamas from being positioned on its border.
